Richie Christian, Head of Regulatory and Quality

Based on Auckland’s North Shore, Richie comes to Formus Labs with a wealth of experience in the medical start-up industry after working for six years at Aroa Biosurgery as Quality Manager.

In his role as Head of Regulatory and Quality, Richie will be leading the global regulatory affairs function which will allow Formus Labs to commercialise products across multiple global territories. He will also lead the quality function to ensure all activities are performed in accordance with international standards and regulatory requirements.

Richie says he wanted to work at Formus Labs as the company has a great product offering with robust clinical data and a strong user base.

“There is huge potential to apply the Formus platform technology in various orthopaedic applications which is a very promising sign for a start-up,” he says.

On a professional level, Richie wanted to have a fresh challenge by working with devices that are classified as ‘software as a medical device’.

“The regulatory landscape for these types of devices is evolving rapidly to keep up with technological developments within the medtech industry, and it’s a space I’m excited about,” he says.

Richie is looking forward to playing a key role in making sure that users around the world have access to Formus’ products, which ultimately improve patient outcomes.

“I am also looking forward to making internal quality system processes robust and efficient so we can take new products to market quickly,” says Richie.

At home, Richie and his wife have a toddler who has kept him busy throughout lockdown, and in any spare time he does get, he pursues his passion for photography as well as playing the piano and singing. And in the age of the smartwatch, Richie has developed a keen interest in mechanical timepieces and spends his time learning about the traditional time tellers.
